Sapanca and Erdemli

Just half an hour’s drive from Sapanca brings you to the village of Erdemli where the creeks, waterfalls, fish restaurants and walking trails are perfect for shedding all that big-city stress.

The village of Erdemli, near Lake Sapanca, is so small and lovely that it is hard to resist its charm.

The village consists of a single mosque and a handful of houses, and is surrounded by a spectacular forest. The Şelale Creek wends its way down to Lake Sapanca through this forest; in places it’s little more than a ripple but sometimes the water cascades over sizeable waterfalls. No Hollywood movie could hope to match this scenery.

A four-hour walk
A trekking trail starts on the Soğucak Plain and takes about four hours to complete, there and back.

As you walk through enchanting forest the chestnut, oak, linden and beech trees sometimes grow so close together that they almost block out the sky.

It’s as well to come prepared as you may need to wade through some of the creeks.

If all that sounds too much for you, there are other shorter forest walks out of the village and these will take you across creeks and cute little wooden bridges.

Afterwards you can tuck into a superb trout supper at the Istanbul Balık Evi (Fish House).
